Dog Training | Continuation Marker vs The Terminal Marker – Episode 3

This video will give you a better understanding of how and when to use a marker.

Mark or Marker (Conditioned-Reinforcers): This is a word or sound that predicts either a reward or a correction.

Your communication channels to your dog (markers or conditioned-reinforcers):
a. Continuation Marker: This sound lets your dog know they are correct, and you will be delivering a reward to them.
b. Terminal Marker: This lets your dog know they are correct, and they may come to you to get the reward. It is a release word that always predicts that a reward is about to be given.

Thanks for watching, and subscribe for new dog training videos every Tuesday!

Chocolate and Caffeine
It’s a pretty well-known fact that chocolate is harmful to dogs. Unlike their feline friends, most dogs don’t have an “off” button when it comes to finding food. The amount and type of chocolate your dog consumes determines the symptoms and toxicity level he will experience. Symptoms can include vomiting, diarrhea, increased thirst, abdominal discomfort, lethargy, muscle tremors, irregular heartbeat, high body temperature, seizures and death. The darker the chocolate is (for instance, baker’s chocolate or cocoa powder), the more dangerous it is to your puppy. They contain a higher concentration of caffeine and theobromine, both of which cause toxicosis in dogs. Keep your dog away from caffeinated beverages as well. Learn more about the dangers of your dog consuming chocolate here.

Grapes and Raisins
While grapes and raisins are not harmful to some dogs, they have been associated with kidney failure in others. Simply put, it’s not worth the risk to find out! Vomiting, lethargy and diarrhea can occur within 12 hours of ingestion. If the symptoms are not treated, they can lead to dehydration, decreased appetite and increased urination followed by decreased urination. If your dog has consumed grapes or raisins and these signs occur, take her to a vet immediately. Your dog can develop long-term kidney disease or even die from kidney failure within three to four days.

ടെസ്സക്ക്‌ കണ്ണ് വയ്യ😒😒 : Life of tessa : dog training malayalam : gsd puppy 75 days old

75 days old female german shepherd

She IS so Cute
Mastering basic obedience commands is a vital part of being a responsible dog owner. These basic commands make navigating the relationship between animal and owner much easier and keep both you and your pet safe in emergency situations.
Training takes a lot of time and patience, even if you aren’t trying any complicated or ‘fancy’ tricks. The responsibility of pet ownership includes properly training and socializing your animal. Before considering adopting an animal, please take into account how much time you will need to dedicate to making sure you have a happy, healthy, well-socialized and well-trained animal.

Sit Command
1. Make sure you have your dog’s attention and a treat in hand. Stand or kneel in front of your dog and hold your hand a little higher than your dog’s head.

2. Use the treat to guide your dog into position by slowly moving the treat straight back over the dog’s head and towards the tail. Your dog should point his nose up and his rear should drop towards the ground.

3. As the dog moved into the sit position firmly say ‘Sit’ and make the hand signal shown in Picture 2.

4. As soon as the dog moves into position reward your dog with a treat and some praise, like saying, ‘Good sit!’

5. If your dog is having trouble understanding, you can help guide them with a gentle push. Place two fingers on his hips and gently push his rear towards the ground while firmly saying ‘Sit’.

Dog Training Tips

If you’re looking for some good dog training tips, then you have reached your destination. Before we get into some cool dog training tips, you should first understand what your dog actually needs from you in a training situation and then learn how to give it to them. Most dog owners make the false assumption that a dog is much smarter than it actually is. In reality, a dog simply reacts to you. It wants to be part of the pack and it wants to be accepted, but it’s still an animal with animal instincts.

So, I say if you want to change any negative behaviors, the absolute best way to approach your dog is NOT to scold them or yell at them, but to focus on changing how they express those instincts.

Core Dog Training Tips

There are a few basic things that every dog owner should consider when training their furry friend. These tasks can make dog training so much easier, I’m not lying.

Crate Training – Crate training provides your dog with a home that it can call its own. Also, try to remember this, a crate should never be used as a punishment. Make sure to spend time at home with your dog in the crate so he can get used to it. As most dog training tips will tell you, a crate can make house breaking, bark reduction, and anxiety issues much better.

Leash Training – I know what you’re thinking, dogs and leashes do not go together well. And I’m here to say you’re wrong. The most important thing you can do is teach them to reach a controlled, calm state and NOT forcing the leash on them. This controlled state will allow them to respond to your commands without getting too excited(or frightened) about the upcoming walk. Most dogs with leash issues are simply allowed to run around outside and pull. If your dog pulls on the leash, make them sit and wait by your side before walking again. In short order, they will associate that pulling sensation with the stop of their walk.

The Alpha Position – Ah, this. Surprisingly, the most important dog training tips relate to the position you hold in the house, yet most dog owners don’t even know this. Despite what most people think, dog training is not the burden of your dog. He doesn’t know what you want and doesn’t generally understand what you’re saying(he is a dog after all). It is on you to teach your dog that YOU are pack leader and YOU have control of the situation. They can then relax, follow your commands and stop worrying about who will protect them.

Obedience Training – Another dog training tip you’ll get can come from an obedience class. These classes teach new dog owners how to maintain the alpha leadership position in their household, display control over their new pup and give them specific, strong commands. If you have a new puppy or are simply having trouble controlling your older dog, consider an obedience class to supplement your home training.

The Importance of Consistency

The one thing that all dog training tips have in common is the need for consistency. It’s so simple yet is’s always overlooked. Much of what dogs learn is in response to a repeated, consistent environment. If you only make them sit before going out when you have time for it, they will get confused and excited and stop following your commands. If you set a rule, be consistent with it and ensure everyone in your home does the same. Good dog training can actually be harder for you than your dog, but it is almost always well worth it.

Belgian Malinois Everything You Need to Know

All About the Belgian Malinois. This video covers Everything You Need to Know about the Belgian Malinois.

The Belgian Malinois is quickly becoming one of the most popular dogs. They’ve been featured in movies and news, the Malinois is considered the superman of dogs.

Check out my online dog training lessons to help you train your Belgian Malinois:

Subscribe:

I’m not gonna tell you NOT to get one, but forewarn you of the dog that the Belgian Malinois is.

Although often mistaken for a German Shepherd, Malinois are a very different breed. Pronounced MALIN WAH, not mali-NOISE they are one of the 4 varieties of Belgian Sheep dogs: Groenendael, Tervuren, Lakenois, and the Malinois.

They are classified as Herding Dogs in the AKC.

IN the US these 4 dogs are considered 4 different breeds, but they are generally considered one breed, the Belgian sheep dog / with 4 different varieties.

Malinois were developed in the late 1800 around Malines Belgium and are named after that city. Their popularity quickly spread as not only agile herders, but great obedience and later great protection dogs.

Malinois is a diverse breed that can do everything from herding, obedience, agility, flyball, protection, military & police work, scent detection and more.

They’re extremely popular in police & military work because of their strong personalities, intense focus, speed, dedication, and desire to work. They’re among the world’s most elite special forces including the US NAVY SEALS.

Malinois is one of the rare breeds that has not greatly deviated from its original conformation.

The difference between Malinois & German Shepherds:

They’re lighter boned, smaller in stature, have a square body as opposed to a rectangular /angulated body of a German shepherd. They range in color from fawn to dark mahogany with the trademarked black mask.

They are higher in drive, can even be high strung, they more eager to learn and may tend to aggression if not properly trained and socialized. They are happy to train and play and require a handler who can entertain them and not wear out.

Malinois are great dogs for savvy dog handlers – NOT SO MUCH for the novice.

If you want a Malinois you should be ready to train and exercise your dog regularly and that means EVERY DAY! That training must encompass both Physical and mental exercise!

They are generally not recommended for the first-time dog owner, apartment living or in homes with many other dogs or cats. They have a very high prey drive which can often times get them into trouble with small animals and small children.

Malinois are a square bodied breed with Males measuring between 24-26” tall and weighing 60-80 lbs

Females measure 22-24” and 40-60 lbs

Their life expectancy is usually 12-15 years.

Some health issues that can affect Belgian Mals are:
PRA Progressive Retinal Atrophy
Hip and Elbow Dysplasia
Pannus
Hemangiosarcoma

Malinois are short haired with a coat that is very hardy with a dense undercoat. The fur should be very short on the head, ears and lower legs, but somewhat longer around the neck where it forms a collarette as well as on the tail and backs of the thighs.

There is a difference between show line Malinois and working line mals, but not as grand as the difference with other breeds such as the German Shepherd. In fact, show line Malinois can do quite well in a working environment. Show line Mals may be better suited for less active homes, but make no mistake about it, they still need a job to do.

Working line Malinois are most often the ones you see in police work, military work and even dog sports such as IPO and ring sports. They may also do sports such as obedience, agility, dock diving and more, but many of these sports are also very well suited for show line dogs.

The ideal is a Malinois that is bred for both, like Goofy – a beautiful physical specimen that has a solid temperament. These dogs can do well at bite work and conformation and be great dogs to live with- without the crazy intensity of a working line high drive military dog.

Malinois are intensely loyal and form strong bonds with their families.

Malinois do best with good healthy food, good training and regular exercise as well as mental stimulation. They don’t do well kenneled or left alone for extended periods of time. They want to be with their people and they want to be doing something!

Training a Malinois takes patience and precision. They will learn whatever you teach them. The use of rewards is extremely beneficial for Mals and they LOVE tennis balls. In fact, tennis ball obsession is a joke among Malinois owners.

If you want a Belgian Malinois, you’ve got your work cut out for you. Do your research, take your time and strongly consider what you are getting yourself into. Malinois are a lot of work… and a lot of fun!
